Discover the island of Krk!

The second largest Croatian island lies in the north of the Adriatic in the Kvarner Bay. The forest covers two thirds of the island, making it one of the greenest islands in Croatia. The northwest of the island is lower, more fertile and fairly densely populated. Among other towns here you can visit town of Krk, Malinska, Njivice, and Omišalj. The south-eastern part of the island is higher and mostly bare. Here you can find the highest peak of the island, Obziva, which stands at 569 m. Among the larger towns you can visit Vrbnik, Punat and Baška.

The island was inhabited in prehistoric times. In the time of ancient Greece, in the area of today’s city of Krk, there was a settlement called Kuryka, which was renamed by the Romans to Curicum. The mild Mediterranean climate, favorable geographical position and the diversity of natural and cultural beauties have been given to him in the antiquity by the name “Golden Island” – “Insula Aurea”. Today there are many museums, galleries and monuments on the island where you can learn about the rich culture and history of the island.

You can access the island in several ways: via the Krk Bridge in the north, by boat to many ports on the island, or by plane to the Rijeka airport, which is located next to the town of Omišalj. The island is also connected with the ferry to the islands of Cres and Rab, where you can travel from the port of Valbiska.
